Comedians have to climb a ladder to success in the industry, just like any other career. A comedian starts out in dirty dives and rat holes, before making it to desirable destinations. This holds true in Los Angeles more than anywhere.
The LA Comedy Scene is neither good nor bad. In fact its horrible. Comedians say they can add up all the money they've made and it wont pay a month's rent. Comedians are crying that the club owners profit highly off of their acts, in the tens of thousands of dollars a night. Meanwhile, the comedians are lucky to take home $100 dollars.
After adding in drinking, driving, and other costs, a comedian may end up losing money.
Here are the reasons for this problem:
1) There are way too many comedy clubs in Los Angeles.
2) Los Angeles is a showcase city, everyone is looking to be found.
Comedians From the L.A. circuit need to travel more to succeed.
